These are semi-guided hunts on private ground with no hunting pressure. Early season birds are still flocked up and respond hard to calling. Later in the spring the gobblers split off and the decoy action gets aggressive. Either way, your days start before first light near the roost and run through the afternoon strut zones. Bring a shotgun or a bow. Both work here, and our terrain of river bottoms, meadows, and pine ridges gives you options every day of your hunt.
Merriam’s country in northwest Nebraska comes in three types: river bottoms stacked with cottonwoods where birds roost over water, grassy meadows where flocks feed at first light, and pine ridges on the edge of Pine Ridge country near Chadron. The same operation runs the Black Hills side in South Dakota, and some guests plan a route through Valentine and the Sandhills to the east.
